Uist Outdoor Centre has been conducting professional powerboat operations since opening in 1992. Our powerboats are multi-functional and are utilised for a range of options:

* teaching the RYA (Royal Yachting Association) National Powerboat Scheme (certificated course)

* providing diver transport to dive locations throughout the Outer Hebrides

* carrying sea kayaks and kayakers to remote offshore destinations, including St. Kilda

* taking rock climbers to otherwise inaccessible sea cliffs and stacks

* adventurous trips as part of a multi activity week

* available for private charter and for film crews / survey work

Powerboat Training

Uist Outdoor Centre was the first established RYA Recognised Training Centre (Powerboating) in the Outer Hebrides, and we continue to deliver professional powerboat training.RYA recognition is your safeguard that you will be taught by qualified, experienced instructors in suitable, seaworthy boats to a recognised syllabus. Regular inspections ensure that standards are maintained.

Certificated courses run:

RYA Level 2 : provides the skills and background knowledge needed by the competent powerboat driver and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence.

RYA Intermediate (day cruising) : covers practical use of pilotage and passage planning by day on coastal waters, using both traditional and electronic navigational techniques.

RYA Advanced (day and night) : provides the skills and background knowledge needed by powerboat drivers operating by day or by night in known or unfamiliar waters, the skipper's role and boat handling in more demanding conditions.
